Adventures with children are just that, adventures!
A visit to Gilroy Gardens has been on my list for quite some time. With the rides geared to younger kids, the beautiful gardens, and plentiful shade, this theme park did not disappoint. I also discovered The Green Barn, a unique learning environment focused on scientific discovery and exploration. They’ve also created a program called the Nature Exchange which is so cool. Find nature treasures at home or in nature and bring them to Gilroy Gardens for a closer look with the microscope and also earn points that can be used to trade for other really awesome natural treasures that others have found and brought in.
The kids enjoyed the rides, the teen even found a few she liked, and the environment was so sensory friendly for this mama! The music that was playing throughout the park was calm and relaxing, the plentiful trees provided shade in many areas, and the gardens offered a welcoming and peaceful view. While this is a theme park with rides and water parks and playground, the environment made it feel like the sensory overload dial was turned WAY down compared to other theme parks we’ve visited. I could honestly visit this place at least once a year and never tire of it.
We did pack snacks as theme park food is typically quite pricy. However, there was a great deal on a few food options the weekend that we visited – $2 hotdogs, Icee or popcorn. We enjoyed Icees at Refresh Oasis, and delicious teriyaki chicken kebabs from Uncle John’s Grill. Portions were generous for the price and bonus points, the kebabs are grilled right in front of you.
Our kids had a blast at Bonfante Falls, but next time, we’ll come prepared for some REAL water play at the Water Oasis and Lakeside Splash. There are still several rides we have not ridden yet, so I am looking forward to the next trip to Gilroy.
